Sponsoring | SMT joins Volvo CE in the FIA World Rallycross Championship

As part of a high-speed partnership, SMT and Volvo Construction Equipment are sponsoring one of the most exciting competitions in motor racing, the FIA World Electric Rallycross Championship.

As one of Volvo CE's main dealers, SMT is joining the FIA World Electric Rallycross Championship as a gold sponsor of the Belgian round (8–9 October, Spa Francorchamps) and is also sponsoring the Volvo CE dealer team created especially for this competition.

SMT and Volvo CE's involvement in the event goes far beyond sponsorship: the manufacturer's dealer team (CE Dealer Team) will be competing in the races with a pair of 680 hp electric rallycross cars. Volvo CE is also the official partner of this championship for track construction, with the support of SMT.

Towards an electric future

The format of the competition, based entirely on electric mobility, as well as the participation of the Construction Equipment Dealer Team with the first electric car, make the 2022 FIA World RX Championship the ideal platform to promote a shift towards a more sustainable, electric and 100% fossil fuel-free future.

SMT, in partnership with Volvo CE, aims precisely to raise awareness among customers and partners of the need for greater sustainability and the importance of electric mobility in the machinery and equipment sector – a sector in which the energy transition towards carbon neutrality is very important. With a history of high-performance off-road solutions, Volvo CE will also use the event to showcase its growing range of electric construction equipment and innovative services available on the market.

Arvid Rinaldo, Head of Partnership and Operational Involvement in World RX for Volvo CE, said:

It is the ideal platform to show our audience how we can help transform the construction equipment industry and motorsport to make them more sustainable.

The race for equality

For the first time ever, a team of drivers consisting of a man and a woman will compete in the international competition, representing the construction equipment dealer team. This is a historic step towards gender equality, and SMT is proud to be part of it. The drivers will be Klara Andersson and Niclas Grönholm, under the guidance of experienced Team Manager Jussi Pinomäki.
